GTM CSS Selector by Tag Companion — Last Updated: June 1, 2026

1. Overview

GTM CSS Selector ("the Extension") is a free browser tool that helps you pick CSS selectors on web pages for use in Google Tag Manager. We take privacy seriously: the Extension collects no personal data and transmits nothing to any server.

2. Data Stored on Your Device

The Extension stores two pieces of data locally in your browser, never on any server:

  • Activated domains (chrome.storage.local): the list of website origins (e.g. https://example.com) where you have enabled the inspector. This is used solely to re-inject the inspector when you navigate between pages on the same domain.
  • UI state (localStorage): the inspector panel's position and minimized/expanded state, so it remembers your preference across page loads. This data never leaves your device.

3. Data We Do Not Collect

The Extension does not:

  • Transmit any data to Tag Companion or any third party
  • Read, store, or share the content of web pages you visit
  • Track your browsing history
  • Use analytics or telemetry of any kind
  • Set cookies

4. Host Permissions

The Extension requests access to all URLs (<all_urls>) solely to allow you to activate the inspector on any website of your choosing. The Extension only injects code on domains you explicitly activate via the popup.

5. External Links

The Extension contains links to tagcompanion.com. Clicking these opens the Tag Companion website in a new tab. Once you leave the Extension, Tag Companion's own privacy policy applies.

6. Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised date.
